Vegan Galaxy chocolate bars will soon be a thing in the UK

Confectionery brand Mars has announced it will launch a vegan range of Galaxy chocolate bars in the UK next week.

The first large brand to offer a plant-based alternative to milk chocolate, the new bars have been certified by the Vegan Society and will be available in three flavours: caramelised hazelnut, caramel and sea salt and smooth orange.

While most large confectionery companies offer a dark chocolate range – which is often accidentally vegan – Mars is the first to venture into vegan milk chocolate territory. The new bars will be made from hazelnut paste to create the smooth and creamy texture milk chocolate is known for.

Kerry Cavanaugh, marketing director at Mars Wrigley UK told FoodBev: “We’re so excited to be bringing these delicious treats to Galaxy’s range using a vegan recipe that doesn’t compromise on the brand’s signature smooth and creamy characteristics.

“Wherever you look you can’t avoid the vegan buzz in the UK. Even though vegan treats are currently only worth £10 million in a £4 billion chocolate market, we think that by introducing Galaxy, one of the UK’s best-known brands, there is a huge opportunity for the category to grow.”

Launching on Monday November 18, the bars will be available in Tesco, Ocado and Amazon at a price point of £3 for a 100g bar – over double the price of a regular 100g Galaxy bar.
