Vegan furious as Domino's serve him plant-based pizza... with ham

An angry vegan has lashed out at pizza chain Domino’s after being served ham on a plant-based pizza.

Patrick Hukins, from Sydney, said he felt “horrendous” after eating “real pig flesh”. It was the first time he had eaten meat in four years.

The childcare worker ordered lunch from his local Domino’s branch on Monday but noticed the vegan "ham" looked too “real” when he opened the pizza box.

He said he went back to the delivery shop and asked “multiple times" for staff to confirm the topping was not meat - and was assured the "ham" was vegan.

Writing in a Facebook post he said: “So I ate the whole thing.

“About an hour later I get stomach cramps.”

Mr Hukins decided to look up photos of Domino's vegan pizzas online and was shocked to see the topping looked “distinctly different”.

He added: “This is horrible.

"It was real pig meat.

“I have been vegan for four years and am so impacted by this experience, as I’ve eaten pig today and feeling horrendous for it.”

A Domino’s Australia apologised and said he understood Mr Hukins' “frustration”.

On Facebook Messenger, the company said: “We ensure Domino’s team members can differentiate between the two products.

“Pizza is our passion and we want to ensure that everyone can share in the joy of pizza.

“Your feedback has been passed on to avoid the likeliness of this from happening again.”
