Veer, Gaurika all praise for Ballantine’s Golf Championship Mixed Pro Challenge

NEW DELHI: Golfers Veer Ahlawat and Gaurika Bishnoi gave thumbs up to the country’s first-ever mixed pro golf tournament, which was recently played at the DLF Golf & Country Club in Gurugram, and said the tournament has a bright future going forward.

The Rs 30 lakh Ballantine's Golf Championship Mixed Pro Challenge was held on April 5 and 6 in a stroke-play tour format using the best two scores on each hole between the two male and one female pro of each participating team.

“It was a great experience. It’s the first time for me to play with a female pro in a professional tournament and everyone really enjoyed it. Already looking forward to the next one,” said Veer of his experience. The team consisting of Hitaashee Bakshi, Aadil Bedi and Ankur Chadha took home the winner’s purse of Rs 7 lakh. The team of Yuvraj Singh Sandhu, Sunit Chowrasia and Gaurika finished runners-up.

Talking about her outing, Gaurika said: “My season so far has been pretty great, I have played six events on the WGAI and finished inside top-5 in all of them. I shot my personal best of -7 last month. So all in all I am happy with how my game is trending, I am looking forward to sharpening it during my off season in May. My only expectation from this year is that I constantly want to improve every tournament, and play to my potential.”

Veer hoped to improve on his tied-6th performance at the recently-concluded DGC Open in the coming months. “The season is going good, I had a good finish in DGC which was my last Asian tour event. So I'm hoping to improve on that.”

Gaurika informed that her next assignment will be the Asian Games trials in Bengaluru. “For me, next up is the Asian Games trials, so I’m really looking forward to playing that. Also looking forward to a month of off-season in May to work on my game. The WGAI season restarts in June for us. Also, hoping to get a few starts on the Ladies European tour later in the year,” she signed off.
