Police today placed a large area near to Vauxhall's Tube, rail and bus stations on lockdown following reports of an abandoned car in the middle of the road.

Police were scrambled to the scene at Vauxhall Cross at around 12pm on Monday.

The vehicle was confirmed as non-suspicious at around 1.20pm, Scotland Yard said in a statement.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said officers were responding to "reports of an abandoned car in the road".

Pictures shared online showed police searching the vehicle on the A3036 and a sniffer dog at the scene.

The bus station was evacuated during the incident, according to witnesses.

Scotland Yard said: "Police were dealing with an abandoned vehicle in #Vauxhall from around midday today.

"This has now been confirmed as non suspicious. Cordons are being removed."

Vauxhall Bridge was partially closed during the incident as road closures were in place in surrounding areas.
