Vauxhall Motors looking to continue perfect start to season against in-form Congleton Town

As Vauxhall Motors’ game away to Padiham on Saturday afternoon was postponed due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Mick McGraa’s men are back in action on Tuesday night as they host Congleton Town.

Congleton, managed by former player Richard Duffy, have had a terrific start to the season themselves and are second in the form table behind Vauxhall whilst being placed fifth in the league table after finishing ninth last season.

It has been six games since their last defeat. Away from home, Duffy’s men have been fantastic as they have won four of their six games with 14 goals being scored.

Their biggest away win this campaign was in FA Cup action as they beat Abbey Hey 4-0. The Bears play at The Cleric Stadium in Cheshire and have done since the summer of 1903.

Their highest recorded attendance is 6,800 as they faced Macclesfield Town in 1954. Their playing colours are diagonal white/yellow with black sash shirts as well as black shorts and socks.

It took many by surprise that former Port Vale forward Tom Pope signed for the club in the summer of 2021, having netted 93 in 293 for Vale across two spells at the club. However, it won't be of surprise that the 6'3" striker is the club's top goalscorer this campaign with eight in eight thus Town are a side that are certainly capable of making their attacks count.

Congleton has a number of notable former players, including manager Duffy. However, another is Jimmy Quinn who netted 232 in 659 games throughout his career as he also appeared for clubs such as West Ham, Bournemouth and Reading in the late ‘80s-early ‘90s.

It is also worth mentioning that whilst the club's chairman is Charles Porter, they were taken over by a community benefit society owned by fans in 2014.
