Owned by American car giant General Motors, Vauxhall Motors is one of the UK's leading car manufacturers, the only company to have consistently produced cars in the UK for more than a century. Many of its models – such as the Corsa, Astra and Zafira – are established household names, while newer models are creating waves for other reasons. The Ampera, Vauxhall's high performance electric car, was recently voted European Car of the Year 2012 at the Geneva motor show. The company is also the UK's largest commercial vehicle manufacturer. Vauxhall employs 4,000 staff at its four production plants and manufactures more than 200,000 vehicles a year, 70% of which are exported.
