Vaughan Gething warns rugby fans not to mix for Wales' Grand Slam bid

The Welsh Government has told people to only watch Wales' Grand Slam bid against France this weekend with members of their own household.

Wayne Pivac's side head to Paris for their Six Nations finale on Saturday in the knowledge that one more win will claim a clean sweep.

But, in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, cheering Wales on as they hunt for their second Grand Slam in three years will look a lot different to pre-Covid times.

People are not allowed to enter other homes unless in very limited circumstances.

Although up to four people from two households are now allowed to meet outdoors locally while social distancing, the 8pm kick-off time means this is unlikely to be practical.

A household bubble - allowing two households to link up and interact as though they lived together - is only permitted for single-adult households, homes where there is a single responsible adult and those who have a child below the age of one.

Speaking at Wednesday's Welsh Government press conference, health minister Vaughan Gething said: "I know many of you will be keen to watch the rugby this weekend and to, hopefully, celebrate a Grand Slam.

"But please celebrate with members of your household only and help to keep coronavirus out."

The warning comes after Wales has taken the first steps out of lockdown this week, with the "stay at home" rule being replaced with "stay local".

"We're relaxing the restrictions in a careful and phased way", Mr Gething added.

"We don't want to lose the impact of all your hard work over the last few months by rushing to reopen too quickly.

"As we relax restrictions and we begin to mix again, the virus will begin to circulate again and we can expect to see some more cases of coronavirus.

"Wherever we go, the virus will come too

"That's why it's so important we all follow the basic steps to keep us, our families and our communities safe.

"We need to keep our distance, to wash our hands often, we need to wear a face covering in indoor public places, we need to keep indoor places ventilated and we need to continue to work from home wherever possible."
