Vast majority of Scots support second lockdown if new wave of coronavirus hits

The vast majority of Scots will support a second lockdown if there's another wave of coronavirus.

A new poll revealed that only 16 per cent would object to the move if the number of confirmed cases were to soar again.

Fifty one per cent said they'd 'strongly' support a return to restrictions, with a further 25 per cent agreeing they would 'somewhat' back the move.

However, the survey by YouGov found only eight per cent would 'strongly' oppose the measure with a further eight per cent agreeing they would 'somewhat' object, the Daily Record reports.

More than 4,000 people took part in the poll across the UK.

And it comes hours after Nicola Sturgeon announced that the number of confirmed cases associated with the virus outbreak at Lanarkshire call centre Sitel had risen to 20.

At her daily briefing yesterday the First Minister cautioned the chance of second wave of Covid-19 is being taken very seriously, and urged them to abide by the rules as lockdown continues to lift.

However, she pointed out that the current wave of the virus remains an immediate risk.

She said: "It has taken four painful months, but it is lockdown that has allowed to stop the first wave in its tracks.

"By putting ourselves in lockdown, we put the virus in lockdown.

"But I ask you to remember this, as we released ourselves from lockdown we also release the virus from it."
