Vasilis Barkas slaughtered by pundits as Celtic goalkeeper draws 'wowee' Kris Boyd response

Celtic goalkeeper Vasilis Barkas had a derby debut to forget as he was slaughtered for failing to keep out Rangers' opener.

The 26-year-old joined the Premiership champions from AEK Athens in the summer and has established himself as first choice.

But he didn't cover himself in glory for Connor Goldson 's opener at Parkhead, failing to save his downward header.

Barkas was under the microscope for his performance, with pundits unanimous that he should have done better.

Speaking on Sky Sports Kris Boyd said: "I must say it's an unbelievable cross and a great header but the goalkeeper... wowee."

Former Celtic striker John Hartson agreed as he also questioned the goalkeeper.

He said: "It's gone through the goalkeeper's body.

"Barkas can get down there and just get enough to it to push it around the post or even hold it.

"I know there's a bit of pace on the ball and it's zipped up off the surface, but still that's a goalkeeping error for me."

The Greek had also come under fire in commentary, with Andy Walker taking aim.

He insisted: "I think Barkas could be better.

"I know it bounces in front of him but he gets a hand to it and I think if you're a top goalkeeper you make a save there.

"I'm not asking him to get hold of it but keep it out, push it to one side.

"I've yet to see Barkas make an important save for Celtic, and this is a big game."
