Vasilis Barkas handed Celtic nightmare exit route as Greek club make transfer enquiry

Frozen out Vasilis Barkas could be handed a chance to leave Celtic with Greek club PAOK interested in a loan deal.

The Greek keeper has struggled since arriving in the Scottish Premiership after a big-money £4.5 million him transfer.

However, he has lost his place to Scott Bain and Conor Hazard and hasn't featured since the middle of January.

The Daily Record report that Barkas could be given a chance to resurrect his career in his homeland with the high-flying Greek Super League side.

With three years left on his deal in Glasgow's east end, he deposed champions are hoping to send Barkas on loan.

It is reported that instead there has been interest from clubs in the Netherlands and in Belgium, but PAOK have become the first club to make a firm enquiry about the availability of Barkas.

The 26-year-old has kept just nine clean sheets in his 20 appearances for Celtic in all competitions and lost his place in the Greek national team this season for the World Cup qualifiers.

With Eddie Howe set to be named as manager, it looks unlikely that the shot-stopper will be handed a second chance this summer.

PAOK currently sit third in the table and look set to qualify for the Europa League.
