Vasilis Barkas Celtic transfer exit teased by Ange Postecoglou in veiled 'hard worker' praise

Ange Postecoglou has conceded Celtic could be set to cut their losses on their flop keeper Vasilis Barkas.

There were high hopes for the Greek goalkeeper after he arrived from AEK Athens on a bumper £5million deal but he has struggled for form.

He has dropped down the pecking order with Joe Hart the undisputed number one at Parkhead, and Scott Bain often preferred on the bench.

There had been claims in Barkas' homeland that clubs in Turkey and the Greek Super League were looking to lure the 27-year-old away from Glasgow's east end.

In an interview with Nova Sports , the Australian admitted he may find his best form away from Celtic.

Celtic's Vasilis Barkas made a surprise appearance against St Johnstone (SNS Group)

When asked about the goalkeeper: "Vasilis is a hard worker. He tried to settle in, but it was difficult with Covid situation.

"But he is a hard worker. We will see what will happens at Celtic or elsewhere."

Despite the struggles of Giorgos Giakoumakis since his arrival in the summer from VVV Venlo, Postecoglou also offered his full support to the striker on the Greek TV station.

He added: "I believe in Giorgos. He had a great season with Venlo last year.

"He came after pre-season and he was a bit unlucky. Celtic is a great opportunity for his career. You saw what happened with Georgios Samaras."
