Vasilis Barkas' Celtic nightmare continues as Greece keeper suffers international snub

Celtic keeper Vasilis Barkas has been left out of the Greece squad for upcoming World Cup qualifiers with Spain and Georgia.

Barkas completed a £4.5m move to Parkhead in the summer, but was unconvincing under Neil Lennon.

And he hasn't played for the club since January, with Scott Bain earning John Kennedy's trust to cement his role as number one for the time being.

As recently as September he was his country's first-choice keeper, but manager John van 't Schip left him on the bench for their last two matches against Moldova and Slovenia - a sign that his stock had taken a hit since his move to Scotland.

And now he has been left out altogether, with Benfica's Odysseas Vlachomidos joining Sokratis Dioudis and Stefanos Kapino in the squad.

There has been no indication that the Celtic keeper is suffering from an injury and he was on the bench for their 0-0 draw with Dundee United last weekend.

Greece will face Spain and Georgia in their first World Cup qualifiers in the upcoming break, while they also host Honduras in a friendly.
