Vasilios Barkas sold on Celtic move as Hoops wait on Fraser Forster transfer flatline

Celtic are close to landing Greek ace Vasilios Barkas.

The Hoops had a £3.5million bid rejected for the AEK Athens shot stopper but negotiations are ongoing, with the 6ft 5ins international understood to be sold on a move to Glasgow.

Boss Neil Lennon won’t hit the button until he knows any deal to re-sign Fraser Forster is completely dead in the water after faint hopes were reignited in the wake of the Geordie being told by Southampton he was surplus to requirements.

Forster told Celts he wanted to fight for his place at St Mary’s but his plans have been sunk by boss Ralph Hasenhuttl, who revealed plans to ship out up to half a dozen fringe men.

The decision has alerted several clubs in the English Premier League and Championship and the Celtic door remains open – if there is a quick decision made.

Lennon admitted he is still looking to strengthen and he is targeting another centre half, with AC Milan remaining in the frame to land £15m plus rated Kristoffer Ajer.
