Vasilios Barkas signs for Celtic as Neil Lennon solves his goalkeeper puzzle

Greek goalkeeper Vasilios Barkas has signed for Celtic from AEK Athens.

The shot-stopper, 26, has 10 caps for his country and spent the last four years of his career at the Greek club.

But Hoops manager Neil Lennon has now moved to secure his signature on a four-year deal, with a fee of around £4.5million plus add-ons provided to seal the transfer.

The signing finally resolves a summer-long vacancy between the Celtic Park sticks after the departures of Fraser Forster and Craig Gordon.

Lennon had tried to tempt last season's loanee Forster into a Parkhead return but the English keeper has opted to see what the future holds at parent club Southampton.

That means Barkas has arrived as Celtic 's new No.1 as the club aim for a monumental 10 In A Row season.

He is set to be available for the team's season opener on Sunday when the Hoops take on Hamilton Accies at home.
