Varying mistakes keep Redskins from finding starter at QB

The Washington Redskins have an uphill battle when it comes to picking a starting quarterback.

Each of the three in contention has had their problems. Dwayne Haskins’ isn’t hard to figure out. Neither is Case Keenum’s given he’s also a new arrival. Colt McCoy is a known commodity.

Kareem Copeland of the Washington Post detailed where each as struggled:

All three have had issues. Keenum has been the most consistent, but he hasn’t been a big playmaker. McCoy has been best with presnap organization and has made big plays, but he has also thrown too many interceptions. Haskins flashes his physical skills but is still learning the details of being an NFL quarterback.

If none of the passers clean up these issues, the Redskins will have a tough call on their hands.

With Haskins, the concern has always been getting the call in from coaches, relaying it and executing. McCoy’s always had issues with mistakes, if not his arm. Keenum has always had questions about his arm strength atop the fact he’s learning a new system.

While some fans might clamor for Haskins to get the nod and be done with it, that’s a plan that has backfired in a big way for other teams if things go south with a rookie passer.

If the Redskins are lucky, at least one of these problems will cease once live action gets underway in exhibitions.
