Varun and I share a very mature relationship, says Karishma Tanna Bangera

Karishma Tanna and her husband Varun Bangera recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary by travelling to two different destinations for their vacations. They went to Dubai on their anniversary (February 5) and later travelled to Kashmir for a snowy getaway. Karishma says, “The first anniversary is always special. Varun surprised me with a holiday in Dubai and we wanted to see snow, so we headed to Kashmir for another break.”

The actress, who got married in her late 30s, adds, “It has been a beautiful one year. I am glad that I got married late because as individuals we are now more mature to handle the ups and downs in life. You know about the usual problems that occur in a marriage because you have heard it from your friends, so when I was getting married, I knew what not to do. Varun and I have a very mature relationship. Even if we have issues, we know how to manage them. Both of us are independent and passionate about our work.”

Karishma always wanted to marry someone who was not from the industry. “It is because I was clear about not coming home and listening to the same shoot and set story,” she says.

Karishma shares, “Initially, Varun wasn’t comfortable with cameras and people following us, but he is getting used to it now. He is proud of my work. Varun is a supportive husband and comes to the set at times to see if I am doing okay. I have never thought about whether he will be okay with me doing romantic scenes because even before I was married, I have always drawn a line when it came to intimate scenes.”

While Karishma is a Gujarati, her husband is a Mangalorean. Talking about it, she says, “I love south Indian food. My masi is married to someone from the south, so I have learnt south languages and also love the music. And now I am married to one, so there was never anything about adapting to a new culture. I am a vegetarian, so he respects that and also eats vegetarian food with me.”

Karishma met Varun two years ago on December 31 at a common friend’s party. She says, “Not many know that it was designer Manish Malhotra, who introduced us. I had gone with Manish for the New Year party and met Varun there. We started talking and soon became friends.”

What’s beautiful about life, she says, is that Varun and she are still getting to know each other. “We are getting to know more about each other, and with each passing day, love grows because you understand each other more. If there is one thing that Varun wants me to work on, it is my patience, while I want him to get up early and go to the gym with me. He is fit, but I’d love it if he came to the gym with me,” she concludes.
