Spear Interactive has released a new development update for Varsity High School Football, outlining progress on several key features including Dynasty Mode upgrades, a quarterback and wide receiver mini-camp mode, a new stamina system and more.
The latest Patreon playtest introduces community file sharing, allowing players to create and upload custom teams, stadiums and logos, then share and download them from others.
A new QB/WR mini-camp mode has been added, giving players the chance to time throws and hit receivers in targeted zones with randomized routes for replayability. The update also includes 100 new and polished animations and more motion capture work with quarterbacks and defensive backs to improve swats, catches and transitions.
Dynasty Mode is getting a major expansion with an overhauled coach creation UI, coach scheme previews and tendency sliders that affect simulation results. Seasons have been extended from three years to as many as 50, though the team notes additional balancing is still needed for incoming player classes, CPU team training, among other things.
A new stamina system is also in place, with player fatigue impacting performance as drives progress. Poor stamina management can lead to drops, missed blocks or blown coverages.
The dev team mentions 7-on-7 gameplay footage is on the way and those looking to join the playtest can sign up and support the project through Patreon. The full release is planned for Xbox and PlayStation, but for now, testing is only available on PC via Steam.
