Varane missing as four youngsters feature - Manchester United training squad vs Omonia Nicosia

Manchester United's training squad ahead of their return to Europa League action does not include Raphael Varane.

United will be looking to bounce back immediately following their 6-3 drubbing at the hands of Manchester City on Sunday and have a great opportunity to do so against Omonia Nicosia. Erik ten Hag does have a selection dilemma on his hands as to whether he names a strong side so his first teamers have a chance to redeem themselves or to rotate heavily for the trip to Cyprus, especially with a tricky away day at Goodison Park coming at the weekend.

Varane picked up an injury in the first half of the defeat at the Etihad and was off the pitch receiving treatment when an unmarked Erling Haaland nodded in the second goal. Sources described Varane's injury as "not bad" and he is not expected to be out for a long amount of time.

However, United are airing on the side of caution given the Frenchman's injury record since arriving at Old Trafford and he wasn't involved in the training session which all but rules him out of Thursday's game. Harry Maguire, Donny van de Beek and Aaron Wan-Bissaka weren't spotted in the session either as they continue to recover from their own injuries.

Promising youngsters Isak Hansen-Aaroen, Maximillian Oyedele, Toby Collyer and Omari Forson were involved as well. There were no goalkeepers in the outfield group.

Manchester United training squad on Wednesday:

Defenders: Dalot, Lindelof, Malacia, Martinez, Oyedele, Shaw.

Midfielders: Casemiro, Collyer, Eriksen, Hansen-Aaroen, Fernandes, Fred, McTominay

Forwards: Antony, Elanga, Forson, Martial, Sancho, Rashford, Ronaldo
