Varanasi: Prime Minister Modi to lay foundation of tourism project at Sarnath circuit

VARANASI: The wait for the launch of World Bank-aided UP pro-poor tourism development project at Sarnath Buddhist Circuit will be over when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay its foundation during his next Kashi visit on July 7.

"This project had been proposed by the tourism department in 2020 with an estimated budget of Rs 100 crores, but following a scrutiny, the state government sanctioned a budget of Rs 72.63 crores for it," said divisional commissioner Deepak Agrawal while talking to TOI on Saturday.

"This project of the tourism department is being monitored by the Varanasi Development Authority, which has also been authorised to release funds to the construction company," he said, mentioning that the work on this project would formally start with the laying of its foundation by the PM on July 7.
