VAR will be used for the first time in a Republic of Ireland game for the Euro 2020 play-off semi-final against Slovakia on March 26.
UEFA have confirmed that, although it wasn't employed for the qualifiers, the controversial technology is to be introduced for the play-offs in the spring.
If Mick McCarthy's side overcomes Slovakia then a play-off final against Northern Ireland or Bosnia-Herzegovina will be the reward.
VAR will be used in the finals next summer, which includes three games at the Aviva Stadium.
The pots for the UEFA Nations League draw have been confirmed, with Ireland again in Nations League B - and positioned in Pot 3 for the draw on March 2nd.
