VAR official from Arsenal vs Crystal Palace controversy to take charge of West Ham vs Newcastle

The video assistant referee who ruled out what could have been a winning Arsenal goal against Crystal Palace on Sunday is in charge of the technology for another London club this weekend.

Gunners defender Sokratis Papastathoppoulos thought that he'd scored his second goal of the game when he found the back of the net after a scramble in the box.

However, the celebrations were cut short when VAR official Jarred Gillett ruled that Calum Chambers had fouled Luka Milivojevic in the build-up. It's a decision that has caused yet another talking point around the use of VAR with many believing that the goal should have stood.

Had it have not been chalked off, Arsenal would have led the match 3-2 with just seven minutes to play, having led 2-0 after just 10 minutes.

Earlier in the match, the Aussie former A-League ref overruled a decision to book Wilfried Zaha for diving and award a penalty to the Eagles.

Despite criticism over the decision, Gillett again finds himself in the Stockley Park office this weekend, when he takes charge of the technology for West Ham's Premier League match against Newcastle United on Saturday.

The Hammers go into the match off the back of a 1-1 draw against Sheffield United, while Newcastle drew 1-1 against Wolves.

The VAR official has never refereed a Premier League match, and has taken full charge of just nine Football League matches.
