'VAR killing football again' says Nottingham Forest ace after Chelsea controversy

Football is dying because of the rules used to govern VAR, according to Matty Cash.

The Nottingham Forest midfielder, watching on as his teammates battled Chelsea in the FA Cup at Stamford Bridge, was left furious when Alex Mighten was denied a 23rd minute penalty.

Mighten, so lively in the first half was sent tumbling to the floor by ex-Derby defender Fikayo Tomori and referee Peter Bankes had no hesitation in pointing to the penalty spot.

After a lengthy delay, Stockley Park decided to rule out the penalty on the basis Mighten’s arm was in an offside position in what would have been a crucial moment in the first half.

Ex-Forest defender Julian Bennett was another to slam the technology.

At that point, Forest were already losing 1-0 after Callum Hudson-Odoi’s seventh minute goal, and it was 2-0 just after the half-hour when Ross Barkley prodded in following a save from Jordan Smith.

Cash was one of a number of senior Forest players left at home by boss Sabri Lamouchi, with the Reds head coach making 10 changes for the tie in west London, with his priority firmly on promotion to the Premier League this season.
