'VAR has done us' - Manchester United fans fume after penalty decisions vs Arsenal

Manchester United supporters were left fuming with VAR during their Premier League showdown with Arsenal on Saturday afternoon. It was a tale of two penalties in the opening 45 minutes at the Emirates Stadium as Alex Telles gave one away upon his return to the starting XI.

However, at the other end, Cedric Soares went unpunished for a handball incident that former Premier League referee Peter Walton said did NOT break the letter of the laws during his analysis for BT Sport. Needless to say, supporters do not agree as they continue to hit out at the much-maligned system.

First-half goals from Nuno Taveres and Bukayo Saka (pen) put Arsenal in control, before returning United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo staged a fight-back. Only three points separated the sides before kick-off, but the Gunners do have a game extra to play in the ongoing battle for a top-four finish.

After watching Tavares put Arsenal on the front foot early doors, United were dealt a further blow when Telles was adjudged to have bundled over Saka - who dusted himself down to score a second penalty in as many appearances following his heart-breaking miss for England in the Euro 2020 showpiece last summer.

Ronaldo gave United a lifeline ten minutes before the break and, on another day - no matter what Walton argues -they might have been awarded their own penalty. Cedric was turned inside out by Jadon Sancho as he approached the penalty area and the Arsenal man took a tumble.

However, despite his arm making a slight but definite move towards the ball, referee Craig Pawson and his officials waved away those appeals. Here are a selection of comments posted by United supporters on Twitter;
