VAR fury, Newcastle's confidence, Howe's improvement and Lampard's desperation - The EIBW Podcast

Newcastle United head to Goodison Park to face Everton on Thursday night as they look to rid the memory of the VAR induced defeat to Chelsea. The Magpies saw the game end one-nil at Stamford Bridge and will be hoping to get back to winning ways on Merseyside.

On this week’s preview episode of The Everything is Black and White Podcast, Andrew Musgrove and John Gibson preview the trip to Everton and look back on the defeat to Chelsea. The pair also discuss the performances of Chris Wood and Sean Longstaff and the outrage over VAR.

Everton are out of the relegation zone only on goal difference with the appointment of Frank Lampard failing to turn the side around. United defeated them at St James’ Park back in February and Howe will look to complete the double.

Speaking about the game, Gibbo noted: “This match against Newcastle is so important to Frank Lampard because five of the top six he’s still got to play! He’ll be twitching like a fried egg on Thursday night.

“Only Watford and Norwich have lost more and there are only four teams who have conceded more. To me Norwich are already down, Watford will go with them and then it’s between Burnley and Everton.

“If they lose to Newcastle, and I believe Newcastle will win, with the five top teams still to play - how many points will they get then? I’m certain Lampard will be saying to his players ‘you’ve got to get three points here - if you don't, look at what is to come, we’ve got trouble.’

“They’ve got to kick-start the resurgence of the club against Newcastle, although I don’t think they will.”

Newcastle fans will be keen for an update from head coach Eddie Howe on whether Joelinton, Jonjo Shelvey and Joe Willock will be fit and ready to be picked for Thursday’s game having missed the defeat to Chelsea. Newcastle will then have a break in their Premier League schedule until April 3rd when they play Spurs.

The club are heading off for a warm-weather camp to Dubai. You can listen to the full episode of The Everything is Black and White Podcast by clicking here .
