VAR dismissed Everton handball claim against Sheffield United

Everton's claims for a penalty against Sheffield United at Goodison tonight were checked by the video assistant referee but dismissed.

Seamus Coleman's flick-on, inside the box, was blocked by the arm of Sheffield United defender Jack Robinson, before the ball was sent out for a corner.

The Blues strongly appealed for handball and though television replays confirmed the ball struck the arm of Robinson, no spot kick was awarded by referee Jon Moss or the VAR.

The VAR - Simon Hooper - that Robinson's arm was in the "expected position" when Coleman's flick-on touched it and that the ball came at him from "close proximity" so there would be no penalty.

Carlo Ancelotti and Everton's backroom staff appeared to question the failure to award the spot-kick with fourth official Lee Mason.

Everton were trailing 1-0 to Sheffield United at the time of the first-half appeals after 17-year-old Daniel Jebbison opened the scoring on his full Premier League debut.
