Vape while driving and you could lose your licence, police say

If you vape while driving you could have your licence rescinded and be fined thousands police have advised.

Should the clouds of vapour get in the way of your ability to drive then you could be prosecuted for driving without due care and attention, reports The Star.

It is not technically illegal to vape while driving, but police have warned that the combination could lead to fatal accidents due to visibility issues caused by the vapour.

This warning has come in the wake of statistics in 2018 which showed how over three million people nationwide use e-cigarettes.

Seargent Carl Knapp, from the Sussex Road Policing Unit, said he strongly advised people to give their full attention to the road when driving, and to avoid anything which could be distracting.

He said: “If you are going to vape I advise that you open your windows and blow the vapour directly out, just ensure you are in full control of your vehicle before doing so.”

If you are found guilty of driving without due care and attention you could receive up to nine points on your licence and a £2,500 fine.
