Vanessa Feltz says gastric band that left her 'deadly ill' was worth it after losing four stone

Vanessa Feltz has opened up about the hell she suffered when she got her gastric band fitted.

The radio presenter, 57, had the operation in 2010 but it made her very sick, leaving her unable to keep food down without throwing it up.

But after getting a gastric bypass fitted earlier this year and losing four stone, she thinks it was all worth it.

She told Best magazine: "I could never eat out in public — I never knew when I'd need to rush to the loo and throw up."

Vanessa added: "I started getting deadly ill in 2018. Some days I couldn't even drink water — I could never get the balance of liquids right."

Her surgeons told her that the band had slipped and advised that a gastric bypass would correct it.

After undergoing the surgery she's dropped a lot of weight and is thrilled with her new look.

Vanessa said: "It was hell, but definitely worth it, though I wish I hadn't had so many years struggling with the band.

"It affected my mood and social life - as well as making me so sick.

"But I'm here now and not looking back."

After losing four stone, Vanessa is now around a size 12, where she used to be a size 18 before the bypass.

Vanessa has struggled with her weight publicly for years.

Speaking about her battle with dieting, Vanessa told Bella magazine: "After my husband left I was properly heartbroken, and couldn't eat, and for the first time I lost a hell of a lot of weight and I began to get happier again.

"So the more I ate again and the weight went back on."
