Vanessa Feltz reveals truth behind weight loss after being left in intensive care

Vanessa Feltz opened up about the terrifying moment she was left in intensive care, as she revealed the truth behind her recent weight loss.

The TV presenter has lost almost three stone, with speculation rife about her transformation.

But Vanessa was left in a bad way after having a gastric band fitted in 2010, and she needed urgent medical attention.

After suffering from symptoms including reflux, she was stunned to learn her gastric band had slipped.

She sought medical advice, even appearing on the show to talk with a surgeon about her experience.

It’s then that she was told she needed to have the band removed, before she was encouraged to consider a gastric bypass instead.

She revealed to host Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield: “In January I thought okay then… my symptoms were getting worse and worse and it was urgent to take it out, so I thought okay let’s do both.”

But during the operation, it was discovered that the slipped band had embedded itself in Vanessa’s liver.

While they managed to remove the band, Vanessa explained how it had to “be carefully dissected” which “took time”, and led to complications.

Vanessa spent some time in intensive care leaving her family very worried for her, but she was still able to undergo the bypass.

Since then, she has lost almost three stone in weight and she discussed the health benefits.

Admitting she was “a little less interested in food” she said: “I’ve lost just under three stone which is great. It’s good for the joints, good for the heart, good for diabetes and good for buying clothes.”

This Morning airs weekdays and Sundays at 10:30am on ITV.
