Vanessa Feltz returns to Weakest Link getting last laugh in feud with Anne Robinson

Vanessa Feltz is returning to the Weakest Link having fallen out it with its former host Anne Robinson the last time she was on the show.

The radio presenter called the current Countdown host a "nasty piece" of work when she was a contestant on the programme more than 20 years ago.

However, in what could be seen as poetic justice, Anne has been replaced as the host of the Weakest Link while Vanessa has been invited back as a contestant.

The mum-of-two is set to star on the reboot of the show, which will be hosted by comedian Romesh Ranganathan.

Each episode will feature eight celebs teaming up and trying to win up to £50,000 for charity.

There was no love lost between Vanessa and Anne (ITV)

Of Vanessa's appointment a TV insider told The Sun : “This will be delicious for her because the last time she was on the show, she left with a bad taste in her mouth following Anne’s comments.

“But Anne’s not the one who has been asked back — it’s Vanessa, and she is likely to savour the moment.”

In a column she wrote for The Daily Express, Vanessa said that Anne was just as vicious off screen as she she was when the cameras were rolling.

Countdown host Anne Robinson has faced a wave of backlash since she took on the position in June (Channel 4)

She wrote: “All I know is when I first attempted the brand new Weakest Link back in 2000 we nervous contestants imagined Anne's virago persona would be just that - a panto performance for TV.”

“We thought she'd be friendly behind the scenes and snap into gorgon mode as the cameras rolled. We were wrong.

“Either the host was method acting or she's a thoroughly nasty piece of work? You decide.”

Vanessa will be joined on the classic quiz show by a host of famous faces, including Diva Forever star, Gemma Collins, actor Richard Blackwood and ladies’ hockey Olympian Sam Quek.

Show host Romesh was announced as Anne's replacement the day she joined Countdown.

However, it looks as if her reputation may have proceeded her as there are rumours of 'tension' between co-hosts Rachel Riley and Susie Dent behind the scenes of the Channel 4 show.

"The tension between Rachel and Anne is being openly discussed. It is very much Rachel and Susie against Anne – a case of two camps," the source claimed in The Mail on Sunday.

"Lots of crew are discussing what is going on. Rachel and Susie don’t care much for Anne and her rather grand ways and things have become pretty uncomfortable."

Mirror Online has reached out to representatives for Anne Robinson, Vanessa Feltz and Channel 4 for comment.
