Thomas Vanek and Henrik Zetterberg scored in the shootout to help the Detroit Red Wings beat the Winnipeg Jets, 4-3, on Tuesday in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Vanek also scored in regulation, along with Tomas Tatar and Anthony Mantha. Petr Mrazek made 31 saves as Detroit earned at least a point for the seventh time in its last eight games.
After Frans Nielsen and Gustav Nyquist missed on their shootout attempts, Patrik Laine scored to put the pressure on Vanek. He did score to extend the shootout, and after Bryan Little missed, Zetterberg cashed in. Finally, Mrazek stopped Drew Stafford to secure the additional point.
Detroit climbed out of a 3-1 hole in the second period. First, Mantha scored his fourth goal of the season _ assisted by Dylan Larkin _ at 10:59. Then with nearly 2 minutes left in the period, Vanek tied the game with his fifth of the year, from Xavier Ouellet and Nyquist.
The Jets score two quick ones midway through the first period. Tallies by Dustin Byfuglien and Laine gave Winnipeg a 3-1 advantage.
Andrew Copp opened the scoring for Winnipeg at 6:41 of the first period, but Tatar answered less than a minute later from Danny DeKeyser and Zetterberg.
