Vandals who destroyed pizza vending machine come forward to pay damages

Two vandals who cost £2,000 worth of damage to a pizza vending machine have come forward to pay for repairs.

A social media appeal was launched to trace the duo after they attacked the machine, located on the junction of Blackfriars Street and High Street in the Merchant City, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

CCTV caught the two men head-butting, kicking and charging at the machine and smashing the glass screen before fleeing the scene.

Owners, who offered a £1,000 reward for information, have today confirmed those responsible have been in contact, offering to pay for the damage.

The Pizza Machine opened for businesses on the corner at the junction of Blackfriars Street and High Street in November last year.

As reported by Glasgow Live, Kristofer Maguire along with with his brother Raymond and dad Kevin - who also owns the Metropolitan Bar in the Merchant City - are the brains behind the machine which is the first of its kind in Scotland.

96 fresh pizzas supplied from a restaurant on Milton of Campsie's Crow Road are stored inside the machine.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said following Sunday's incident: “Police received a report of vandalism to a pizza machine on High Street in Glasgow which is believed to have occurred around 1.30am on Sunday, January 17, 2021.

"Enquiries into the incident are ongoing."
