Vandals have targeted a community nursery building in Dundee just weeks after it was set up.
The thugs smashed a huge window in a brand new hi-tech pod at the Old Fintry Nursery.
The £65,000 building was only delivered to the site on Fintry Road last month.
Police have been informed about the attack and are investigating.
The damage is even more heartbreaking because of the community focussed ethos of the new facility that lay derelict for a decade.
Bosses at Flexible Childcare Servcies Dundee intended to use the damaged pod as a hub for an outdoors afterschool club for local children to use.
But that will have to be put on hold until the damage to the window - thought to run to hundreds of pounds - has been fixed.
As well as the out of hours school club there are plans to develop develop the Fintry Nursery's out buildings and gardens to create a range of community initiatives including a two storey space which will house a community workshop, office spaces as well as creating a community courtyard garden.
These additional spaces will enable them to serve the Fintry community through several needs-based initiatives, such as social inclusion, loneliness, and mental wellbeing.
Writing on the company Facebook page, a spokesman said: “We are asking for your Community Spirit to help us.
“The pods that we have put into the garden at the nursery for our Out of School Club have been vandalised.
“It saddens us that we are even having to highlight that this has even happened. All we are asking is that if you hear or see anything please can you get in contact with the police.
“We want to work together with the community to have this fabulous service. Please support us to stop any more vandalism. Thank you.”
Locals took to Facebook to voice their anger at the damage.
Rachel Garrigan wrote: “Insert appropriate swear words why do some people have to be disgusting and so nasty!!! There is absolutely no need for this!”
While Jan Brown added: “This behaviour disgusts me.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers received report of vandalism at a premises on Fintry Road in Dundee which occurred between Friday, 7 January and Monday, 10 January, 2022. Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
