Vandals trash Broxtowe play area and leave it covered in smashed glass

A play area in Broxtowe has been closed after "mindless" vandals ripped up floor matting and left smashed glass scattered everywhere.

Woodfield Park play area in Woodfield Road was locked up as of Thursday, August 6, after the play area was damaged.

Nottingham City Council's street scene team says community protection officers will now be monitoring the area to prevent further acts of vandalism.

The team said: "Unfortunately today we have had to close Woodfield Park play area due to vandalism.

"The little kids are going without due to the 'big' kids' mindless acts. Community protection informed to keep an eye on it."

The play area, which is located near Broxtowe Country Park, features a climbing frame with a slide and a sandpit.

The protective rubber matting was torn up and now needs to be repaired.

Councillor Rebecca Langton, the portfolio holder for communities who represents Bilborough for the city council, was with the street scene team when they came across the vandalised play area.

She said: "The matting had been ripped up and thrown around and broken glass was everywhere. A local play area is now out of use for local kids at a time when it is much needed.

"Come on Nottingham, we are better than this."

Councillor Ethan Radford, who represents Bulwell for the council, added: "I just don't understand it, I really don't."

The community protection team for Aspley, Bilborough and Leen Valley said it was "sad to see" the play park facilities damaged.

It said regular patrols will take place in the area going forward.
