Vandals trash Brel in Ashton Lane during overnight break in

Popular west end bar Brel has been trashed by vandals following a break in.

The incident occurred overnight at the Ashton Lane institution, with the thieves making a "real mess" of the pub according to the pub's owners.

Thankfully, it seems that the culprits left empty-handed, with owners confirming that "nothing of value" was left in the pub, "not even a stray bottle of Duvel".

In a lengthy Facebook post, Brel owners confirmed that they had suffered the break in, before taking the time to thank Police for arriving on the scene so quickly.

The post reads: "We really didn’t want to board up our windows and up until today we hadn’t. Partly through hope and optimism and the fact we love how our beautiful old stables building looks and all the memories it holds.

Owners have now boarded up Brel following the break in (facebook/brelbar)

"Sadly last night we had a break in. Thieves broke in smashing windows through the back (there is nothing of value in the building - not even a stray bottle of Duvel!) made a real mess and scarpered. We know it’s tough times but these guys looked like professionals.

"The reason to post is to say a huge thanks to the police stationed on Dumbarton Road who were there in minutes with a police dog. They’ve a tough job right now keeping us all in check never mind dealing with the occasional idiot smashing windows. Thank you."

Police Scotland have been contacted for comment.
