Vandals spray 'Z' on doors of Russian critics against Putin's Ukraine invasion

Vandals are scrawling the letter 'Z' on the doors of Russians who have criticised Vladimir Putin's invasion.

The letter has become synonymous with the Kremlin's forces after soldiers painted it on their armoured vehicles in Ukraine.

Pro-Putin fanatics sprayed the symbol on the door of Russian journalist Anna Loiko's flat, alongside an ominous warning that she was a 'traitor'.

One activist's door was sprayed with the words 'don't sell your homeland, b***h'.

It comes after Putin ranted about 'traitors' in a speech earlier this week, warning that Russians would spit them out 'like a midge that flew into their mouths'.

Ms Loiko, who works for the opposition news site SOTA, told the BBC: "They see people like me as a worthless part of society.

"Police and MPs call us parasites and freeloaders who are working against the country.

"And I'm called a traitor of course like they wrote on my door, like I don't want Russia to win. But I just don't want our country to be fighting."

Activist Olga Misik's door was also defaced with the warning 'don't sell your homeland, b***h'.

Ms Misik tweeted a picture of the entrance to her flat, which had also been emblazoned with the letter 'Z'.

She joked: "My apartment has undergone cosmetic procedures."

Fellow activist Dmitry Ivanov's home was also targeted with the symbol.

He wrote on Telegram: "This is the message left for me by anonymous ‘defenders of the homeland'."

It comes after Putin singled out 'traitors' that would be spat out by Russians 'like a midge that flew into their mouths' in a chilling speech.

He then claimed the West would use "those who earn their money here, but live over there" as a "fifth column" designed to divide Russian society.

"I do not judge those with villas in Miami or the French Riviera," the 69-year-old warmonger said.

"Or who can't get by without oysters or foie gras or so-called 'gender freedoms.'

"The problem is they mentally exist there, and not here, with our people, with Russia.

"The West will try to bet on the so-called fifth column, on traitors... to divide our society.. to provoke civil confrontation... to strive to achieve its aim. And there is one aim - the destruction of Russia."

Putin, who has passed law tightly controlling the speech of his people and press freedoms, then continued his rambling rant by suggesting the West was bent on imposing sanctions on his country.

He claimed "they just don't want a strong and sovereign Russia".

The speech coincides with claims that Russia's invasion of Ukraine is stalling, with the besieged force holding ground and even pushing back against the aggressors in areas.
