Vandals ruin popular Leeds United fans artwork including tribute to late Gary Speed

Artwork contributed by popular Leeds United fan Andy McVeigh has been mindlessly vandalised, including a tribute to the late Gary Speed.

Known as the Burley Banksy, McVeigh's artwork has been widely lauded by Leeds United fans for brightening the city, including several impressive designs covering electrical boxes surrounding Elland Road.

Sadly, McVeigh revealed that much of his artwork in LS11 has been defaced by vandals, and shockingly his tribute to Speed was vandalised on what would have been the Welshman's 50th birthday.

Speaking on Twitter, he said: "It seems most of my #lufc artwork on the boxes on Elland Road and nr stadium has been ruined. It's same person who did them in red last time, now in black.

"Never had any negative comments about it, only v positive reactions so it's mystifying. Takes hours to do each one. Gutted."

This isn't the first vandalism incident related to McVeigh's work, after his 'We All Love Leeds' artwork near Elland Road was covered in red paint last month.

Speaking to LeedsLive after the latest incident, he said: I'm so speechless really, I think they've done all of them along Elland Road. I daren't even go down and look at them as I'll get too upset at them.

"They're going to ruin the rest of them now, aren't they. They're going to paint over the bollards, I've done loads on Gelderd Road that have just taken me hours and hours and hours."

His work is extremely well-received among the Leeds United faithful, and fans on social media were quick to show their support.
