Vandals leave thousands of pounds of damage after smashing up medical centre

Vandals caused thousands of pounds worth of damage after smashing up a medical centre in Rochdale.

Computers and medical equipment were targeted during the overnight break-in at Littleborough Group Practice. Staff at the health centre, in Featherstall Road, discovered the damage at 8am this morning (Sunday).

"It's been really badly vandalised," said practice manager Kelly Vines.

"We don't know why it's been done. The whole health centre had been broke into and a lot of damage has been done to equipment - everything from computers to medical equipment and vaccinations that have been thrown on the floor.

"They have ransacked the place."

Ms Vines said it was not yet clear who was responsible for the attack, or the reason behind it.

She added: "We don't know what the motive is or who has done it.

"It's a massive shock to us all. We are here to help people and look after their care, we are not terrible people.

"It's really upsetting that everybody was clapping for the NHS and saying how wonderful it was during Covid and now we are getting to the point where this has happened."

Despite the damage, Ms Vines said she did not believe anything was taken during the break-in.

She said the practice intended to open to patients tomorrow, although some appointments may need to be rearranged.

"Damage has been caused to a lot of the rooms and our Reception area.

"The Practice will operate tomorrow in some form. Patient's appointments affected will be contacted directly. If you are not contacted please attend your appointment as normal.

"Please bare with us when contacting the Practice tomorrow, a lot of our equipment has been damaged."

Greater Manchester Police has been contaced for more information.
