Vandals have targeted another Swansea seafront attraction

Swansea’s Footgolf pitch was damaged the same night youths poured cooking oil into Blackpill Lido.

Hole markers were uprooted and taken, and wood smashed up around the kiosk where visitors hire balls and pay to take part in the Mumbles Road facility.

Managers said they suspected the damage was carried out by the same individuals who forced the closure of neighbouring Blackpill Lido.

CCTV is now being examined to see if it will help identify the culprits.

Roger Malaphant, of Swansea Footgolf said: “There was a bit of damage, with them throwing things about and stealing the markers.

“It is just irritating and disappointing. The markers are there so people playing know where they are aiming. It means we’ve had a bit of disruption.

“I’m sure it was the same people who were at the lido, walking back into town.

“We’ve also had an issue with motorcycles being ridden off-road. My concern is that they are going to hit someone.

“We can have up to 100 people playing footgolf, including children, and the last thing we want is for anything to happen to them”.

Police have released CCTV images of two boys officers wish to speak to in connection with the lido damage.

The incident, thought to have happened at 1am on Thursday, August 1, has resulted in the closure of the lido. It will remain closed over the weekend, with Swansea Council hopeful it will re-open early next week.

It is the second incident at the lido since June, when vandals shattered glass into the water.
