Vandals cause £2000 worth of damage to pizza vending machine in Merchant City

A pizza vending machine in the Merchant City has been badly damaged by vandals just months after it was installed.

The Pizza Machine opened for businesses on the corner at the junction of Blackfriars Street and High Street in November last year.

But less than two months later, a pair of vandals have caused around £2000 worth of damage to it.

Two men were caught on CCTV headbutting, kicking and charging at the vending machine around 1am on Sunday morning.

After several attempts, the pair can be seen smashing the glass screen and making off.

Owners are now appealing for the public's help to find those responsible and have even offered a £1000 reward for information.

Two men are captured in the CCTV, with one wearing a grey hat, black fleece and grey coloured trousers. The second man is wearing a multi-coloured fleece with Aztec design and dark trousers.

As reported by Glasgow Live, Kristofer Maguire along with with his brother Raymond and dad Kevin - who also owns the Metropolitan Bar in the Merchant City - are the brains behind the machine which is the first of its kind in Scotland.

96 fresh pizzas supplied from a restaurant on Milton of Campsie's Crow Road are stored inside the machine.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Police received a report of vandalism to a pizza machine on High Street in Glasgow which is believed to have occurred around 1.30am on Sunday, January 17, 2021. Enquiries into the incident are ongoing."
