Vandals broken glass attack on Perth soft play centre

The owner of Noah’s Ark soft play in Perth has been left gutted after vandals trashed the building.

Owner Charlotte Lorimer (35) was left facing a “a total nightmare” after the children’s play complex was targeted at the weekend.

She was alerted by the alarms going off at 9pm on Sunday.

It emerged that vandals had climbed onto the fragile, ridged roof and smashed 11 skylights.

They’d also thrown breeze blocks through double glazed windows into the cafeteria, covering carpet and tables with glass.

Noah’s Ark is closed due to the pandemic and was not expecting to welcome children and their families until the country reaches tier 1, expected to be in June.

“We are gutted,” Charlotte said. “We are just so sad it’s happened after such a hard, hard year.

“Just when we think it’s looking promising to get our centre back open, this happens: thousands of pounds worth of damage was done last night to the property.

“The roof has a huge amount of damage and bricks were thrown through the windows as well.”

Charlotte told the PA: “It is a disaster what they did. How dare they? I feel devastated.

“Eleven gaping holes where they knocked out skylights. It will cost thousands. It will need to be an insurance job.

“The worse bit is waking up on a bank holiday Monday morning and trying to find a roofer to come and do an emergency patch up.

“And there was heavy rain forecast for Monday afternoon.”

Charlotte has owned Noah’s Ark for five years and worked there for 15.

“We’ve had the odd bit of trouble with damage in the past, but never anything as extensive as this.”

A spokesperson from Police Scotland said: “Around 9pm on Sunday, May 2 police were called to a report of a vandalism at a play centre in Old Gallows Road, Perth.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland through 101, quoting incident number 3678 of May 2.”
