Vandals struck the Wallsend District Cricket Club on Monday. Members found Tuesday a changing room wall on the No. 2 ground had been knocked in and pitch covers had been removed where regional juniors have been playing a representative carnival.
It is the second time the club has been targeted this season; the previous attack, before Christmas, caused up to $6,000 worth of damage, club president Chris Bushell said.
"It's disappointing," Mr Bushell said on Tuesday afternoon. "It's more of an annoyance than anything else."
The attack has been reported to police and City of Newcastle workers were temporarily patching the hole in the changing room wall on Tuesday until more permanent repairs can be made, Mr Bushell said.
A club Facebook post detailing the damage notes that expensive pitch covers were also removed from the grounds and dumped in a nearby creek.
The post has received pledges for support from the Wallsend community, including from one local handyman offering his services for free to make repairs.
Mr Bushell said the junior carnival was going ahead on Tuesday. He added that the club would make inquiries with Wallsend MP Sonia Hornery and local council about the possibility of installing CCTV cameras on the grounds.
