Trains are running again between Hornsby and Gosford on the Central Coast & Newcastle line after they were closed and replaced by buses earlier on Monday.
A spokesperson for the NSW Transport Management Centre said the closure was owing to vandalism of signal equipment at Cowan, and that passengers should allow for extra travel time as a result.
Passengers have been advised to listen to announcements and check indicator boards as stopping patterns may change.
Meanwhile, fire crews will be conducting hazard reduction burns near Wisemans Ferry between Tuesday and Friday, causing scheduled lane closures at Old Northern Road between Singleton Road and Laughtondale Gully Road in both directions.

The Transport Management Centre has advised drivers to expect slow traffic and smoke in the area. Motorists should drive to the conditions.
