A 44-year-old man has admitted to vandalising SA government buildings, including the State Administration Centre in Adelaide's CBD where he used a hammer to smash windows.

Anthony Bevan-James Anderson faced the Adelaide Magistrates Court this afternoon without a lawyer, charged with four counts of property damage and breaching his bail.

The Adelaide man pleaded guilty to causing up to $30,000 worth of damage to the State Administration Centre on Victoria Square last week.

He also admitted to vandalising the Department for Education building and the Adelaide Entertainment Centre in Hindmarsh, where he smashed four glass windows.

Anderson was arrested yesterday at a property in Thebarton, where officers also allegedly seized a hammer believed to be used in the attack on the State Administration Centre.

The building is where the Premier's and the Treasurer's offices are located, and is also where South Australia's Cabinet meets.

Anderson also pleaded guilty to breaching his bail.

But he pleaded not guilty to damaging the SA Police building on Wakefield Street, telling Magistrate Alfio Grasso he "never touched" it.

"That crime never actually occurred," he told the court.

He made no application for bail, telling the court he "had nowhere to go", before he was escorted from the video link room.

He was remanded in custody and the matter will return to court in June.
