Van windscreen smashed after children throw objects at moving cars on A90

Police have launched a probe after children threw an object at a moving van shattering the windscreen on the A90 yesterday.

Two children - a boy and girl aged about 12 - were seen to throw an object at a Transit van travelling on the Kingsway in Dundee at 50mph.

The reckless act, which happened at around 5.40pm near the BP petrol station at Liff Road, resulted in the the object striking and shattered the van’s windscreen.

While obviously shaken the driver was thankfully not injured and was able to stop the van and pull over safely.

The children are thought to have then run through a nearby underpass into Dryburgh.

Police say this is just the latest in a string of incidents involving youths throwing things at moving cars in the area and they are appealing for information

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "This is not the first time we have had to deal with young people recklessly throwing things at moving traffic, with potentially disastrous consequences.

"We would like to ask parents to remind their children of the potential dangers of this kind of action, and of the consequences that could follow, both for the occupants of vehicles and for those responsible.

"If anyone has any information regarding this incident, please call 101 or speak to any police officer. Our reference is incident 2427 of March 2."
