
NAKHON RATCHASIMA - Nine people on their way to make merit in Sakon Nakhon were hurt when the van they were travelling in rear-ended one of two trucks involved in an earlier accident in Sikhiu district in the early hours of Wednesday.
The crash occurred near kilometre markers 93-94 on Mittraparb Road in tambon Lad Buakhao around 12.25am, said Pol Capt Theerapong Pinitmontri, duty officer at Sikhiu police station in Nakhon Ratchasima province.
The van ran into the back of a six-wheel truck parked on the road after an earlier accident with another six-wheel truck, witnesses told police.
Nine people in the van were injured - five women, three girls and a teenage boy. They were still trapped in the wreckage when police and rescue workers arrived. They were extricated and rushed to a nearby hospital.
The injured people, all relatives, had departed from Saraburi for Sakon Nakhon to attend a thod kathin (robe offering) ceremony.
Police planned to question the drivers of the van and the two trucks.
