Van on wrong side of road leaves scene after Dad-of-two's car gets smashed in West Dublin

A van that was driving the wrong way up a one-way road fled the scene of an accident leaving a father with around €2,000 worth of damage done to his car.

The van smashed into the side of a car Tower Road in Clondalkin moments after another motorist was forced to swerve onto the footpath to avoid it.

The incident happened around 9.30pm on Sunday with a garda spokesman confirming one vehicle was reported damaged.

He said: "On Sunday 1st September at approximately 9.30pm there was a traffic collision on Tower road.

"One car was damaged due to a vehicle driving up the road the wrong way. No further cars were damaged."

Posting in a local Facebook group, the fuming Dad said he can't afford to fix the damage which amounted to €2,000.

He wrote: "Some fool drove the wrong way up tower road earlier at 21.32pm.

"They almost hit the car in front of me causing it to swerve towards the footpath.

"It then smashed into the side of my car right outside the entrance to Dominos and left the scene of the accident.

"There is approx €2,000 damage done to my car. I have a mortgage and two young children in creche and cant afford to fix my car.

"This has been reported to the guards."
