Van hits and severely injures two police officers at RBT stop

Two police officers were severely injured after being struck by a van at a random breath test (RBT) stop in Sydney's south-west.

Police were setting up a roadside RBT site on Campbelltown Road in Leumeah when they were hit by a vehicle at about 8:20pm last night.

The two male senior constables sustained severe leg injuries.

One officer is critical but in a stable condition.

The other man is being treated for suspected leg fractures.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured and was taken to Campbelltown Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.

Police have spent the night examining the damaged van and speaking to the driver of the vehicle.

Police said a critical incident team would investigate all the circumstances surrounding the incident.

They urged anyone with information to contact Crimestoppers.
