Van Gogh ‘immersive experience’ headed to Chicago for U.S. premiere

Fans of the artwork of Vincent Van Gogh take note: Chicago will be the setting for the U.S. premiere of “Immersive Van Gogh,” a massive indoor digital presentation of his work unlike any traditional museum exhibit in the world.

The “art experience” will open Feb. 11, 2021, at Lighthouse ArtSpace Chicago, a new presentation venue inside the landmark Germania Club Building (108 W. Germania Place). According to the official statement, the experience will make full use of the building’s Victorian-era architectural details, 35-foot-tall walls and multiple levels (including balconies) to present artwork that surrounds patrons on all sides.

“Immersive Van Gogh” affords art lovers the chance to “step inside” his works via 500,000 cubic feet of high-def digital projections, enveloped by light, music and movement. The site-specific Chicago experience (the show had its world debut in Toronto this summer) is designed by Italian producer Massimiliano Siccardi, with music by Italian composer and pianist Luca Longobardi.

Tickets, $24.99-$39.99, go on sale at 11 a.m Nov. 23 at vangoghchicago.com and by phone at (844) 307-4644. Tickets for the hourlong walkthrough will be for viewings Feb. 11 – May 2, 2021. COVID-19 pandemic safety protocols will be in effect including touchless ticket-taking; temperature checks upon arrival; hand sanitizer stations and social distancing “circle” floor markers. Face masks are mandatory at all times.
