Van flips over on side at 'nightmare' junction causing traffic chaos

The emergency services were called to Ormskirk town centre after a Suzuki van flipped over on its side at a busy junction.

The Suzuki van crashed on its side after a collision with a VW Polo at the busy Fiveways junction in Ormskirk.

Police, fire and ambulance all attended and made the scene safe.

Paramedics treated two people at the scene but they did not require hospital treatment.

Police confirmed to the ECHO they were called to the scene at around 11.40am today. Both drivers stopped at the scene of the accident and cooperated fully with officers.

Police helped make the scene safe and organised the recovery of the vehicles.

The accident, at the junction of Southport Road and County Road, caused delays in the area.

One resident, who asked not to be named said: "This junction is a nightmare. We have bad crashes here once every few months.

"It’s a matter of time before someone is seriously injured if not killed.

"Years ago our MP Rosie Cooper suggested Halsall Lane should be made a one way street so not as many cars would be turning across each other at the junction, but nothing seems to have come of those plans.”
