Van fire on board ship at Bristol's Portbury Docks

Avon Fire and Rescue have confirmed that a fire broke out on a ship at Bristol's Portbury Docks on Sunday evening (August 7). Seven fire crews attended the scene of the blaze.

The fire service was called to the scene at 7.13pm. The teams found the remains of a fire in the engine of a van the ship was transporting.

Crews from Avonmouth, Pill, Patchway, Bedminster, Temple, Kingswood and Portishead attended the incident. The company on board the ship had extinguished the fire prior to the fire crews' arrival.

On attendance at the scene, the fire service found the fire's remains in the engine of a van on board the ship itself. Avon Fire and Rescue have released a statement after the incident.

They said: "With the company aboard the ship having already extinguished the fire, fire crews worked to inspect the scene with thermal imaging cameras. Crews then ventilated the surrounding decks to ensure proper smoke clearance."

The vehicle was then removed from the ship by crews. The cause of the fire is thought to be accidental, caused by an engine malfunction.
